This weekend’s RABBLE.club Sandown 500 will see Bryce Fullwood make his racing debut in the Virgin Australia Supercars Championship.
The 20-year-old will drive alongside Todd Hazelwood in the Bigmate Racing Commodore, in what will be the team’s debut Sandown 500.
“It is a dream come true—like most young kids I’ve always watched Supercars growing up and have always wanted to do it—but I never thought it was achievable,” Fullwood said.
“Ten years on and I am about to make my first start in a Supercars race … it’s very exciting for my family and I.”
Fullwood and Hazelwood will be one of the youngest driver combinations in the field, with a combined age of 42 and zero Sandown 500 starts between them.
“I think if we play our cards right and we all as a team do a good job, there’s no reason we can’t get a result,” Fullwood said.
“I also think it’s important to set realistic goals, so we aren’t expecting to win, but I think if we all as a team put in a performance that we are all happy with, I think the results will come.”
The North Territorian racer will also continue his Dunlop Super2 Series campaign this weekend, racing a car almost identical to the Bigmate Racing Commodore.
“Whilst the cars are similar, they are still different enough for the Super2 car to not be a direct comparison,” Fullwood added.
“The most valuable thing will be me gaining experience on the super soft tyre to help my performance in the ‘main game’ car.”
Preparation has also been key for Fullwood in readiness for his debut.
“I’ve been training in conjunction with my trainer Josh Webb from Webb Performance to get me fit and ready to tackle the event … I’ve also been doing as much driver change practice as I can with Todd to try and streamline that side of things, just so they become effortless and don’t affect us in any way.”
Fullwood will be on track tomorrow in both the Dunlop Super2 Series and the Virgin Australia Supercars Championship as part of the RABBLE.club Sandown 500 on 14-16 September.
