Supercars rookie Todd Hazelwood has reflected on his Winton SuperSprint debut, after a lonely Race 14 of the Championship.
The Bigmate Racing Falcon raced over the 200-kilometre distance today, finishing the final race of the weekend in 24th position.
The 22-year-old says it was another trying weekend for the team and they are looking forward to an upcoming test day prior to the Darwin event.
“What a tough weekend for the team and I … I don’t think there is anything more we could have tried as a team this weekend, we threw every change at the car and didn’t get a reward all weekend long,” Hazelwood said.
“Such a shame not to be able to race hard with the other guys, but fortunately we will have the opportunity to test in a weeks time.
“We have some homework to do, our qualifying pace is really frustrating as we are not getting any sort of advantage on the green tyre, giving us no chance to be competitive against the others.
“Our race pace wasn’t too bad at certain stages of the race, but we need to evaluate so many combinations to understand what this car needs to be competitive.
“As mentioned, we have a test day coming up and I’m really looking forward to hitting the reset button with this car and start to clarify some issues we currently have.
“It’s hard to take the positives out of a weekend like this, but we will keep pushing and Darwin will be a lot greater for us.”
The Bigmate Racing team will now begin preparations for the next round of the Championship at Hidden Valley Raceway for the CrownBet Darwin Triple Crown event on 15-17 June.
