Hazelwood reflects on debut Australian Grand Prix

Bigmate Racing’s Todd Hazelwood had a solid performance at the Coates Hire Melbourne 400, as part of the Formula 1 2018 Rolex Australian Grand Prix.

The 22-year-old survived the final race of the weekend, taking home 19th place in Race 6 of the Virgin Australia Supercars Championship.

“Very pleased with today’s result …  being able to move forward with genuine pace was a good sign of improvements and awesome to have some great battles once again,” Hazelwood said.

“It was a shame to lose some spots late in the race with bad tyre degradation but overall I believe we maximised our result.

“The team did an awesome job all weekend. We faced some very challenging circumstances and we overcome most aspects.”

After the second round for the season, Hazelwood currently sits 22nd in the Championship heading into the next round in Tasmania.

“The team and I have noticed there is some key aspects we need to work on before we head to Tasmania,” Hazelwood added.

“Although some people may think we are over achieving, as a team we feel there is a great room for improvement and hopefully we will be able to achieve some good results sooner rather than later.”

The Bigmate Racing team will now head to Tasmania for the first time this year, racing at the Tyrepower Tasmania SuperSprint on 6-8 April.
