With the 2023 Supercars Championship season fast approaching, Matt Stone Racing is pleased to confirm the signing of Cameron Hill as their second driver to replace the departing, Todd Hazelwood.
Canberra-born and raised Hill joins MSR off the back of his Bathurst 1000 and Supercars Championship debut at this year’s Repco Bathurst 1000 event. In 2022, Cameron has also been a standout performer in the Dunlop Super2 series of which he has claimed two podium results. Cam currently sits 4th in the Super2 championship standings with one round to go, neck and neck with fellow 2023 Supercars rookie Matthew Payne as they battle it out for 3rd.
Having acquired 9 years of car racing experience on his journey to becoming a full-time Supercars driver, Hill brings with him plenty of promise and potential. He was the 2021 Porsche Carrera Cup Australia Champion and is the winner of the 2022 Bathurst 6 Hour. Earlier in his car racing career, Hill was the 2015 Australia Formula Ford Series winner, and runner-up in the 2017 Toyota 86 Racing series after finishing third in 2016.
When asked about having signed with MSR as a full-time Supercars driver for next season, Hill said it is a dream come true.
“It has been a goal of mine for years to compete at the highest level here in Australia.
“We have massive potential here at MSR. The team has been building towards Gen 3 for some time now. Everyone will have brand new cars, and I see it as a big opportunity for myself and the team to make an impact. It’s the first time the playing field will have been level for years.
“I am grateful that Matt and the team see my potential and are giving me this opportunity”
Team Owner and CEO Matt Stone commented, “It’s exciting to have another rookie in the fold here at MSR. And in Cam, we see a lot of great potential with the experiences and success that he has had in multiple categories over the past few years.
“I think he is the perfect fit for the changing dynamic that comes with Gen 3”
The transition into Australia’s top motorsport category can be overwhelming; but lucky for the almost 26-year-old Hill, he has future teammate Jack Le Brocq to guide and help him as he learns the ropes as a full-time Supercars driver and finds his feet in the category.
The signing of Cameron Hill completes the Yatala-based squad’s driver line-up for the 2023 championship season.
