As the year draws to an end, things are only getting more intense at the Matt Stone Racing workshop with so many things on the go.
Firstly, our 2020 involvement in Supercars is set in stone, with two Racing Entitlement Contracts purchased. Stay tuned for updates regarding our driver line-up.
Our Bathurst campaign saw car #35 roll out with our best prepared car to date that received much attention and admiration from all quarters with its striking SP Tools livery and great pace throughout practice and qualifying.
Todd clocked the fastest first sector of any driver in a wet qualifying session that would have seen MSR easily into the Top 10 shootout, if not for being held up in the second sector.
Starting P15 Todd did a great job advancing to P12 then handing over to Jack Smith who lifted to the occasion with a clean co driver stint.
We made it to lap 101 of the 161 laps, it doesn’t always go your way, but MSR showed the paddock and fans how the team is advancing in all areas, for which we are all very proud. Todd fortunately received the all clear from his hospital visit and is raring to go for GC600.
The ZB commodore however fared much worse than initially anticipated from the hard shunt on the skyline at Mt Panorama. The MSR crew have been working around the clock to prepare the car for this weekend’s exciting local street circuit. Along with the rebuild comes a fresh livery. The SP Tools ode “Leesa’s SP livery” has been retired and in its place, our commercial clothing partners, UNIT have come up with something so very Gold Coast.
UNIT’s marketing manager Toby Lynch is enthusiastic about the livery release “as a Gold Coast-based born and built brand it makes sense for UNIT to join MSR as naming rights sponsor for this weekend’s event, our home race on the Supercars calendar.
We’re stoked to present an eye-catching livery that draws upon design DNA running throughout our current range of premium motocross gear, as well as helmets and bike stickers.
There won’t be anything else like it on track and that fits with the brand’s philosophy of doing things differently.
The bonnet also features a new logo, UNIT Workwear, an exciting new division of the brand which is set to launch to the market in November.
The stage is set for an awesome weekend, and we can’t wait to join Todd, Jack and the entire MSR team trackside to see the UNIT Racing Supercar at full flight around the Surfers Paradise track.”
Matt Stone, team principal thinks it makes perfect sense to endorse a local brand at our local event “I think it looks great and is reflective of the vibrant and youthful culture we have here on the Gold Coast.”
