A special weekend lies ahead for the Bigmate Racing team at Newcastle, with the team set to end their debut Supercars season where they won the Dunlop Super2 Series in 2017.
With Todd Hazelwood behind the wheel this season, the Super2 champion has endured a tough initiation into his debut Supercars season and is looking to end the season on a high this weekend.
“I honestly cannot believe we are all preparing for the final round of the 2018 Supercars Championship—it’s been a year filled with many moments but has gone very fast,” Hazelwood said.
“Very special memories have been flooding in as we head to Newcastle this week.
“Last year being the first event and winning the Dunlop Super2 Series and overall round was truly incredible, it was a weekend I’ll never forget and hopefully one day I’ll be able to replicate that level of success in the Supercars Championship.
“I’m feeling pumped for this weekend, the team and I have made great progress and looking forward putting last years successful knowledge to good use.
“Based on the key characteristics of the unique Newcastle circuit, I feel the VF should treat us well.”
Hazelwood added that the track is a great challenge and is excited to return to the street circuit.
“The track is fast, super bumpy and surrounded by concrete walls,” Hazelwood said.
“In 2018 we have achieved some of our best car pace on the street circuits, so hopefully Newcastle will be kind to us again in 2018.
“We don’t have much practice so hopefully the car is close to it’s operating window and we can hit the ground running and have a great weekend.
“It would be fantastic to finish the year on a high.”
Practice kicks off on Friday with the Coates Hire Newcastle 500 to run on 23-25 November.
