Bigmate Racing’s Todd Hazelwood will achieve a personal milestone this weekend, racing off Australian shores for the first time in New Zealand.
The 23-year-old will make his ITM Auckland SuperSprint debut starting tomorrow, competing at Pukekohe Park Raceway for the first time.
Hazelwood is looking forward to the event, in what will be the penultimate round of the Virgin Australia Supercars Championship.
“I’m super excited to be racing overseas for the first time and taking on the challenge of mastering the Pukekohe circuit … I have always wanted to visit NZ and to be finally here is really cool,” Hazelwood said.
“We have made some good progress over the last couple rounds internally and hopefully we can keep making small gains over this weekend.
“Being my first time on this short but tricky track will be tough compared to others, but really looking forward to the challenge and to see what we can achieve.
“The bumps and multiple surface changes around this circuit make it very unique—the track seems very flowing and requires big commitment from the driver, which I’m looking forward to.
“With only two rounds remaining in 2018, hopefully we can finish the year off on a high.”
The team will be on track tomorrow for practice before two 200-kilometre races on Saturday and Sunday.
Bigmate Racing will make their New Zealand debut across 2-4 November.
