Hazelwood reflects on Perth SuperSprint

Bigmate Racing’s Todd Hazelwood has reflected on his Perth SuperSprint debut in the Supercars Championship, after finishing 22nd in today’s final race.

The 22-year-old brought home the solid result after qualifying 24th, stating that the Falcon felt the quickest in the race than it has all year.

“Quick car, great race pace but simply the result didn’t reflect the positives achieved in todays 83-lapper,” Hazelwood said.

“I had a great start and pushed hard, made a heap of spots and put ourselves in a really competitive position. We were looking after our tyres really well and had pace on the people around us.

“Unfortunately I was pushed from behind and put back to last, which was a bummer and then added to the frustrations we had three long pit stops costing us more than 20 seconds.

“On a positive note, we must highlight the fact our race pace was the best it has been all season on what is renowned for being the hardest to achieve this. We set numerous fastest laps of the race and very proud of our engineering and management group to achieve this.”

Hazelwood is now 23rd in the Championship, in what has been a challenging year for the new outfit.

“It’s still very early days for our team and we have made a huge step forward this weekend,” Hazelwood added.

“For me personally, its good to finally start seeing some progress and I cannot wait for the next round at Winton.”

The Bigmate Racing team will now prepare for the next event on the Virgin Australia Supercars Championship calendar, travelling to Victoria for the Winton SuperSprint on 18-20 May.
